Rome. Last weekend. Twas amazing.
It has been one hell of a weekend. So this may be a longish post. But now, as I look and see that I have 8 more minutes of class and therefore only 8 more minutes of high speed wireless, I think it may indeed be shorter.
So Rome. It was such a departure from Venice, and I think I needed its energy and taxis to motivate me through the next two weeks. I did all the touristy sites, and as someone who hates to be a tourist with my map and guidebook, I embraced it whole-heartedly. Needless to say, I have an inordinate amount of photos, between my camera and the cameras of two friends, one of which I would call a damn brilliant photographer. So, prepare yourselves for a slideshow!! yay!! I went ot just about every site that was on my “ROME 2004-2005” calendar. But my favorite part would to the outside eye seem mundane and silly, but to me it was extraordinary. We were rushing to the Colosseum Friday evening to buy tickets for the next day and avoid a colossal (hehehe) line. As I’m power walking towards the Colosseum, I look down at my iPod clock and it says that it is 7:38, not 6:38, as in an hour later than I thought it was. I stop walking and my two friends look at my oddly.
“Who told me that it was 6:30?” My friend Steph says. “Me. We gotta go” “Stephanie, look at your watch again.” “Okay, it’s 7:30.” “Stephanie, this is why you need to start wearing your glasses.”
We stopped exactly where we are laughing and popped a squat on a wall as dusk approached. My other friend Saba pulled out her sketch pad, and started to outline the really really old building that was in front of us. Steph took out a book, and I pressed play on my iPod. And this was my favorite part. We were surrounding by history on all sides, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, a building whose name I can’t remember, but was pretty. And yet, sitting on a wall next to a busy street as the sun began to go down was the BEST part.
More to come. Email updates would be lovely <3
Buona giornata a tutti,
